Baby running barefoot

A baby running barefoot

 1. What's your understanding of the poem ? Write it in detail.

Ans. Baby raining barefoot is a poem by D.H Lowrens in which the first poet observes the bare feet of a baby as it moves towards the grass. There are "little white feet" like "white flowers in the wind".

Then compares the child's steps to gentle ripples of water. A deep longing is expressed in the poem. Because the poet longs to get close to the child. The poet compares each organ with nature.

The description of the baby's feet as "cool like syringa buds" emphasizes their refreshing nature, creating a sensory experience for the reader. The comparison to "pink young peony flowers" conveys the idea of the baby's feet being both firm and silken, highlighting their softness and resilience.

Overall, the poem unfolds as a celebration of the simple joys found in observing a baby's uninhibited play. The imagery of nature, such as flowers, wind, and butterflies, adds to the poem's charm, creating a visual and emotional connection with the reader. The poet's desire for the baby to come closer reflects a universal longing for connection and the warmth of a child's presence.

2.how do you see your own journey from childhood to adulthood ?

Ans. It seems that my journey from the beginning till now has been good.  It seems to be good because we remember every good moment in our life.  We are forgetting the bad moments.  I studied in the village till class 8.  But in 9th standard there was a talk at home to put me in a hostel so I thought it would be fun in a hostel but when I went I found out that staying in a hostel is difficult.  I have learned a lot from staying in hostels and have had to stay alone in many places.  So I got to learn a lot.  It's been seven years since I stayed in hostel but now I don't care about small problems .And now I can deal with some situations very easily.  I have got number 1 to 5 from class 1 to 8. But since I came to hostel my marks are decreasing. Maybe I can't fulfill my parents wish because my performance in my field seems very poor.  I knew how to set it according to any situation, but somehow I had to learn how to achieve my goal.

Araby by James joyce

Araby by James joyce

Q.1 write a movie review besad on the movie Rockford .

Ans. "Rockford" is a 1999 Indian English-language coming-of-age drama film. Which is written by Nagesh Kukunoor. The film navigates the complexities of adolescence. As an example of this film we can take James Joyce's short story called 'Araby'.

Both "Rockford" and "Araby" feature themes of youthful infatuation. In "Araby" the protagonist is attracted to his friend's sister, and in "Rockford" it is about teenage feelings. Thus, such similarities play an important part in connecting these two stories.

The protagonists in both the short story and the movie undergo significant inner turmoil. In "Araby," the young boy experiences the emotional turbulence of unrequited love and the harsh reality of the adult world. Similarly, the protagonist in "Rockford" faces the tumultuous journey of self-discovery, dealing with the complexities of friendship, love, and societal expectations. The inner conflicts in both narratives serve as a universal portrayal of the challenges one faces during the formative years.

From both the short story "Araby" and the movie "Rockford," audiences glean valuable insights into the human experience. The poignant narratives serve as mirrors reflecting the complexities of adolescence, the turbulence of emotions, and the quest for self-identity. Viewers are encouraged to introspect, drawing parallels between the characters' journeys and their own personal growth.

Ultimately, "Rockford" and "Araby" contribute to a broader conversation about the challenges of growing up, emphasizing the importance of resilience, self-discovery, and staying true to one's aspirations. The power of storytelling lies in its ability to evoke empathy and understanding, and both these narratives effectively achieve that, leaving a lasting impact on those who engage with them.

Q.2  write a note on the major themes of the story .

Ans.1) Coming of Age:

In "Araby" by James Joyce, growing up is a central theme. The narrator reflects on his childhood experiences at the Araby market from an adult viewpoint, showing how he has changed. His obsession with Mangan’s sister makes him distant from friends and rebellious towards authority figures. Despite gaining maturity, the story suggests that growing up can bring dissatisfaction and a loss of innocence, making it a kind of tragic process.

2) Infatuation: Adolescence and the Awakening to Reality:

One prominent theme in "Araby" is the theme of adolescence and the awakening to reality. The story unfolds through the eyes of a young boy on the cusp of adolescence, navigating the unfamiliar terrain of infatuation and desire. As the boy becomes infatuated with his friend's sister, the narrative captures the essence of youthful innocence and the inevitable clash with the harsh realities of the adult world. This theme resonates universally, as readers are transported to a time of vulnerability, curiosity, and the painful awareness that comes with growing up.

3) Unrequited Love:

The concept of unrequited love is another central theme in "Araby." The protagonist's infatuation with Mangan's sister becomes a poignant exploration of the ache that accompanies one-sided affection. Through vivid and evocative language, Joyce paints a picture of the boy's yearning and the disappointment that ensues when his romantic aspirations go unfulfilled. This theme tugs at the heartstrings of readers, eliciting empathy for the universal experience of unreciprocated love and the emotional toll it takes on an individual.

4) Religion and Spirituality:

Religion and spirituality also play a significant role in "Araby." The story is set against the backdrop of the boy's fervent desire to attend the Araby bazaar, a place he envisions as a holy sanctuary that holds the key to his salvation. This theme introduces a layer of irony as the boy's idealized pilgrimage to Araby mirrors the religious quest for enlightenment. Through this exploration, Joyce critiques the potential disillusionment that can arise when reality fails to meet the heightened expectations associated with religious or spiritual pursuits.

5) Escapism:

The theme of escapism is woven into the fabric of "Araby" as well. The boy uses his infatuation and the prospect of attending the bazaar as a means of escaping the mundane and restrictive aspects of his everyday life. This theme underscores the universal human tendency to seek solace or excitement beyond immediate circumstances, often leading to a collision between idealized dreams and the limitations of reality. Joyce skillfully captures the tension between the desire for escapism and the inevitability of facing the world as it is.

Human Interest : A service of love

1. Discuss how O Henry employs the theme of sacrifice and love throughout the story 'A service of love'

Ans. The most important themes of the story are love sacrifice, patience, and creativity. Joe and Delia truly love each other and are happy to live together. Yet when the issue of money arises both of them are ready to lie so that the other person does not suffer.

Q.-2.| What is the significance of the title of the story? Discuss.

Answer:

The title of the story, "A Service of Love," encapsulates the essence of selflessness and devotion depicted in the narrative between Joe and Delia. It signifies the depth of their love and the sacrifices they make for each other, showing that true love involves acts of service and sacrifice.

The phrase "When one loves one's Art no service seems too hard" is a recurring theme throughout the story. It underscores the idea that when someone deeply loves something or someone, they are willing to do whatever it takes, regardless of the difficulty or sacrifice involved.

Joe and Delia exemplify this notion of "A Service of Love" through their actions. Delia sacrifices her musical aspirations and takes up a laborious job at a laundry to support Joe's pursuit of art. She hides her struggles from Joe to spare his feelings, showcasing her selfless dedication and service to his passion.

Similarly, when Joe discovers Delia's sacrifices, he doesn't reproach her. Instead, he appreciates her efforts and selflessness. He, too, sacrifices his pride and takes up menial work to support Delia, illustrating his commitment and service to their relationship.

The title highlights that love isn't just a feeling but an active service and sacrifice for the happiness and well-being of the beloved. It emphasizes the depth of their commitment, showing that genuine love involves putting the other person's happiness above one's own desires or ambitions.

Through the title "A Service of Love," O. Henry showcases the significance of selfless acts and sacrifices that stem from love. It emphasizes the idea that love isn't solely about emotions but is manifested through actions of service, support, and sacrifice, demonstrating the profound depth and strength of their relationship.

Q.-3.| What title would you choose if you were asked to do so?

Answer:

If I were to give a unique title to this story, I might call it "Love leads to sacrifice." The title "Love leads to sacrifice" summarizes the essence of the story. In the narrative, Joe and Delia's deep love for each other drives them to make sacrifices for the other's happiness. Delia sacrifices her musical aspirations to support Joe's artistic pursuits, while Joe, upon discovering Delia's sacrifices, takes up menial work to support her in return. Their profound love for each other leads them to selflessly sacrifice personal ambitions for the well-being and happiness of their partner, showcasing that genuine love involves acts of sacrifice and dedication.
