The black cat by Edger Allan Poe

The black cat

1.how dose Poe create a sense of suspense and horror in the story ? (Themes, symbols and etc.)

Ans. Written in the form of a first-person narrative, Poe employed multiple themes of insanity, superstition, and alcoholism to impart a palpable sense of horror and foreboding to this tale.and also Poe develops suspense through three events: the hanging of his black cat, Pluto; the finding of the second black cat; and the killing of his wife, Virginia.

2.what do you think the narrator's descent into madness occurs?

Ans. The only reason the narrator is mad is the black cat. Because the narrator had a good relationship with the cat at first, but then he kills the cat. But the cat comes back alive. This is probably one of the main reasons why the narrator going crazy.

3. What role does alcohol play in the narrator's actions and decisions?

Ans.Alcohol played a major role in the decision to kill the cat and the narrator's wife. Because after a person drinks alcohol, his mind is not under his control and he does whatever he likes on impulse.
